Virtual Professional Learning Community (VPLC)

We’re excited to announce our monthly Virtual Professional Learning Community (VPLC) in partnership with University of New Orleans’ Midlo Center.

Every month we’ll dig in deep to look at at least two of the Summary Objectives of the 6-12 Framework for Teaching Tolerance’s Teaching Hard History Initiative.

After that, we’ll work our way through the K-5 Framework. And if you’re an elementary educator, no worries! We’ll be looking at ways you can scale the 6-12 content for your students each month.

It’ll last 90 minutes, with about 45 minutes of that being Q&A. Check out our Google Folder where you can share resources and lessons for feedback each month.

Our lead presenter will be Dr. Kate Shuster, the director of the Hard History Project and the long-time manager of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Hard History Initiative. And from time to time other authors and experts will drop in on these meetings.

Please feel free to share this page with any and all educators who might like to attend.

While this series is free of charge, we gladly welcome tips to help compensate our planners and facilitators.

We’re excited to learn with you!

Speak Up: How to Respond to Everyday Prejudice, Bias and Stereotypes
hosted by Jarah Botello and Cora Davis

It’s happened to many of us. We find ourselves in a situation where someone around us uses biased language, and we don’t respond because we don’t know what to say.

Based on Learning for Justice’s Speak Up at School guide, this workshop is for those who want to develop the skills to speak up against biased language themselves and who want to help others find the courage to speak up too.

Register for the interactive workshop HERE.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
